General: Area: 9,984,670 sq. km Capital: Toronto Weather: Canada is often associated with cold weather and snow, but in reality, its climate is as diverse as its landscape. Population: 34,537,000
Electricity Supply:
Power utility: The large government-owned integrated public utilities play a leading role in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. Total Power consumption: 536.1 billion kW Avg. price per Kwh (comm.): 10 cents/kWh Renewable Energy resources: Canada is the world's second-largest producer of hydroelectricity, which accounted for 58% of all electric generation in 2007. Regulative body: Government (Ontario is the first province to actively support the development of solar electricity generation by introducing The Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) Program in 2009). Renewable Energy legislation: State goal: Ontario’s PV market is expected to reach cumulative volume of installations of 455 MW in 2011 and 2,500 MW by 2015. PV Feed-In-Tariff current: Rooftop ≤ 250 kW – 71.3 cents ∕kWh Rooftop >250 ≤ 500 kW – 63.5 cents ∕kWh Rooftop >500 kW – 53.9 cents ∕kWh Ground-mounted ≤ 10 MW – 44.3 cents ∕kWh
PV Market: 2011 Ontario PV market to grow by almost 270% compared to 2010 and will reach 455MW in 2011
Potential annual yield 1 KWp : Ottawa (Ontario) 1198 PV Allready Installed: By May 2011 the OPA (Ontario Power Authority) awarded contracts in respect of 839 mid-sized projects that represent more than 140 MW of installed capacity. Potential projects: Sample 3.1 MW Project: Whitby Mall : Community shopping center with 406,000 square feet of retail space. The mall is a one level retail shopping center, with two office towers (the Eastern tower has 3 floors; the Western tower has 4 floors). Major tenants: Hart, Staples, Business Depot, McDonald's and Blockbuster.
PV Projects Potential in Nova Scotia : To encourage a range of renewable projects, in 2010 the Government of Nova Scotia has released a proposed feed-in tariff program. This program establishes plan for expected 100 MW of renewable electricity projects. The Government will review the program in 2012. EL- AD Group’s properties in Nova Scotia include a 365,000 sq. feet Bedford Place Mall, with a potential of 1-3 MW roof-top project. PV Projects Potential in Quebec : Quebec still has not introduced a feed-in tariff for PV installations. However, the grid-connected solar systems are available for residential use since 2007.Quebec’s first grid-connected PV system was installed in 2003. EL-AD Group has around 1,300,000 sq. feet industrial buildings in Quebec which represent a potential of between 5MW to 10MW of roof-top PV projects. |
